First published in 1878, Under the Lilacs by Louisa May Alcott follows the story of a boy name Ben and his dog Sancho. On the run from their lives in the circus, Ben and Sancho find themselves taken in by the friendly Moss family. Thanks to their kindness, Ben soon has a job, a family, and a chance to go to school. But can life with Miss Celia and his other new friends ever compare to the excitement of the circus? And will Ben stay out of mischief long enough to find out?

A handsome later printing. Hardcover, brown cloth over boards. The form factor, design and typesetting resembles those of the familiar Roberts Brothers editions from some forty years prior. The cover bears the familiar floral motif and Victorian-style lettering of that earlier edition, though the ink decoration is stamped in black without gilding or coloring. Black-and-white illustrated frontispiece. The latest copyright notice, in the name of John S. P. Alcott, is dated 1919.
